Before Language #3, 2024

Ink, Canson Watercolor Paper on Aluminium Dibond, Acrylic Paint on Acrylic Cover
100 x 100 x 17 cm

The inspiration for the series "Before Language #1 ~ #3" is drawn from the movie "Arrival." In the film, extraterrestrial beings with seven limbs use ink-spraying tentacles to form black circular symbols, serving as their language. This transcends linear time and space, simultaneously subverting the inherent cognitive frameworks of humans.

Before the invention of written language, prehistoric humans expressed themselves by drawing on cave walls. However, with the emergence of written language, humanity gradually imposed self-limitations, confining many sensory perceptions within established frameworks.

These three pieces attempt to blur the relationship between drawing and text, creating a state of overlapping in space. Through this form, they articulate a perception of the world that is more liberated.
